On 5th February 2026 the government launched its formal consultation on Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) in Staffordshire (originally indicated to happen in May 2026).
The 5 proposals that have been submitted from the various authorities include plans for two, three, or four unitary councils to replace the existing District and County Council system which currently covers the whole of the Staffordshire area. The consultation asks you questions about each proposal.
This consultation will last for 7 weeks and closes at 23:59 on 26th March 2026.
Please voice your opinion. The Government will consider all of the submissions and make the decision in respect of how Staffordshire is governed in 2027/8″
