Help us turn Staffordshire’s food waste into energy to power our communities and rich fertilise to fuel local farms

Did you know that 48% of the average general waste bin in Staffordshire isn’t actually rubbish? It is food.

Throughout 2026, we are supporting the roll out of a major new service to change this.

To align with the government’s ‘Simpler Recycling’ initiative, all households in Staffordshire will receive a new weekly food waste collection service.

This isn’t just about meeting a mandate; it is a massive opportunity for our county. By recycling this food waste, we can turn it into renewable energy to power our communities and nutrient rich fertiliser for farms.

Crucially, reducing food waste could unlock up to £1 million in savings for Staffordshire taxpayers.
